  • What is the best time to travel?

If you want my opinion, the months that are most preferable to travel to Ethiopia would be September and October as this time of the year offers a particularly beautiful landscape since it follows the rainy season (June and August). During this period, the whole country is covered with a mantle of flowers of thousands of colors that bring a beauty to the already magical landscape. Let's just say it's the Ethiopian Spring. However, do not fear if you can not visit the country at this time, it just adds an extra beauty to the view but Ethiopia can be breath-taking at any time of the year. ...more ...less

  • What should I pack?

In Ethiopia, there are certain things that are difficult to find, especially if you are travelling through rural areas. Therefore, it is very important to be pack thoroughly. The first thing you should keep in mind when packing your suitcase is including a first-aid kit with the following items: Mosquito repellent and sprays High SPF sunscreen and sunglasses Antihistamine Antiseptic cream for insect bites Plasters Anti diarrhoea pills Saline solutions in case of severe dehydration Contact lens liquid Besides the first-aid kit mentioned above, it is advisable to include in your bag the following items: Light clothes for the daytime and a good sweater or pullover for the evening Sandals and a good pair of shoes (specially during the rainy season to deal with muddy pathways) A discrete wallet or money belt and a small bag to carry your camera and phone A rainy jacket and umbrella if travelling during the rainy season (June to September) A warm sleeping bag if you are thinking of sleeping in campsites A hat and sunglasses to avoid long sun exposure If you are thinking of donating your personal stuff we kindly advise to do it at your discretion and avoid uncomfortable situations on the street, especially with children. We recommend you to contact a local NGO in advance so they can relocate your things in a sustainable way.

Trip of a lifetime!

06-Dec-2023

My wife and I did a 10 day Bale Mountains tour with Awol, who was an incredible guide. The whole tour was so well organized, all the guides, drivers, cooks, and horsemen, were absolutely incredible people. We saw incredible wildlife in such unique and beautiful landscapes, including warthogs, monkeys, endemic mountain nyala, ethiopian wolves, and abyssinian owls. It was the trip of a lifetime! Don't be afraid of Ethiopia, the entire trip felt so easy and so safe, you will not regret it! ...more ...less

Great Bale Mountain Tour!

16-Oct-2023

We had a last minute change of plans for our trip to Ethiopia and stumbled upon Armaye's tours in the Bale Mountains in a frantic search for an alternative destination. He had excellent reviews so we reached out to him about a 3 day tour of the Bale Mountains. He was very responsive to our questions and flexible with our timeframe. Armaye and his team were incredibly knowledgeable about Bale Mountain's history, plants, animals and people and spoke great English. They were unbelievably patient with our (tons of) questions and intuitive about places where we would want to linger or stop and take photos of the sights or animals. If you are visiting Ethiopia and want to have an outstanding nature and cultural experience, we highly recommend Armaye and his team! ...more ...less

Bale Mountains Tour: Four Days, Five Stars

18-Apr-2023

I did a four day tour of the Bale Mountains with Armaye after shopping around and finding that his tour was the most reasonably priced for a private tour (I was travelling alone). Armaye’s English is impeccable and his knowledge of the fauna and flora is encyclopaedic. He answered my thousands of questions, not just about the national park but also about the country as a whole and its fascinating history. Armaye is a consummate professional, communication was clear and timely, the tour was well organised, he told the chef about my annoying dietary requirements (vegan) and the chef cooked great meals for me. I find that the Bale Mountains don’t always come across that well in photos, possibly due to the weather, but the vast expanses and varied scenery are beautiful, the wildlife watching is top class (Ethiopian wolf, colobus monkey, bushback, warthogs, and many more) and walking through the villages and seeing the locals at the edge of the park and inside was a highlight. Highly recommended. ...more ...less
