Day 2: Cuartelhuain - Cacananpunta Pass - Janca, Peru

Hike from Cuartelhuain to Janca (B/L/D)
Your trekking adventure starts today! This morning, you will hike towards the Cacananpunta Pass, located at the Continental Divide where the waters flow to the Amazon and the Atlantic. Get impressive views of the mountains and keep your eyes open as you could see Andean condors, one of the largest birds in the world. You will then descend to your beautiful campsite at Janca, near the Mitucocha Lake where you will get stunning views of the peaks of Ninashanca, Rondoy, and Jirishanca. Today's hike won´t be so long so that you can acclimatize with the altitude. In the afternoon, you will have the option to get some rest or you can opt for a short hike that will lead you to the lake.
Note: Today's trekking distance will be about 8.3 km / 5.2 miles (5/6 hours).
Day 3: Janca - Carhuac Pass - Carhuacocha, Peru

Hike from Janca to Carhuacocha Lake (B/L/D)
Today, you will reach the Carhuac Pass where you will experience amazing views of the highest mountain in the Huayhuash, Yerupaja. You will continue your way to the campsite, located below the beautiful Carhuacocha Lake where you will get scenic views of the snow-capped peaks and the hanging glaciers.
Note: Today, the trekking distance will be about 9.8 km / 6.1 miles (5/6 hours).
Day 4: Carhuacocha - Siula Pass - Huayhuash, Peru

Hike the challenging climb to Siula Pass before you reach the campsite in Huayhuash (B/L/D)
Wake up quite early this morning to witness a spectacular sunrise. You will then challenge a long climb passing through Yerupaja, Yerupaja Chico, Siula Grande, Jirishanca, Santa Rosa, and Carnicero. You will be rewarded with the amazing views of the pristine Gangrajanca, Siula and Quesillacocha lakes before reaching the top of Siula Pass. You will then get some deserved rest at the campsite in Huayhuash.
Note: Today, you will hike for about 8/9 hours (14 km / 8.7 miles).
Day 5: Huayhuash - Trapecio Pass - Pampa Cuyoc, Peru
Location: Cuyoc

Reach one of the highest passes of the trek, Trapecio Punta and overnight on the plains of Cuyoc (B/L/D)
After breakfast, you will reach one of the highest passes on the journey, Trapecio Punta. Be amazed at the incredible peaks of Trapecio and Puscanturpa among others. You will then face a steep and rocky descent and traverse an old glacier moraine before reaching camp in Cuyoc.
Note: The trekking distance will be about 11.4 km / 7.1 miles (7/8 hours).
Day 6: Pampa Cuyoc - Santa Rosa Pass - Cutatambo, Peru

Hike to Santa Rosa Pass before heading towards Cutatambo (B/L/D)
Today, you will ascend to Santa Rosa Pass where you will get amazing views of the impressive mountains of Siula Grande, Sarapo, Rasac, and Jurau. You will then head towards the Cutatambo Camp, in the beautiful Calinca Valley.
Note: Today, the trekking distance will be about 5.2 km / 3.2 miles (5/6 hours).
Day 7: Cutatambo, Peru
Location: Cutatambo

Chill out at the campsite or do an optional hike (B/L/D)
Today, have some rest at the campsite and enjoy your free time spotting at the crystal clear lakes and the icy glaciers or visiting the English mountaineer Joe Simpson's Base Camp. If you still have energy, you will be able to hike to the Cerro Gran Vista, where you will be amazed by the panoramic view of some peaks of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
Day 8: Cutatambo - Huayllapa - Huatiac, Peru

Head towards the village of Huayllapa and finish your day in Huatiac (B/L/D)
After your breakfast, be ready for the hardest treck of your journey. Head towards the village of Huayllapa where you will feel higher temperatures. On the way, you will find beautiful waterfalls. You will then hike a steep ascent that will lead you to Huatiac, a meadow located at the foot of the stunning glacier peak Diablo Mudo, the "Dumb Devil".
Note: Today, you will hike for about 8/9 hours (16.5 km /10.3 miles).
Day 9: Huatiac - Punta Tapush Pass - Gashpapampa, Peru

Cross the Punta Tapush Pass before reaching Gashpapampa (B/L/D)
Today, you will hike to the Punta Tapush Pass before trekking down for about an hour to your camp in Gashpapampa. Get the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful sunset behind Mount Diablo Mudo.
Note: Today, you will hike for about 4 hours (6.5 km / 4.1 miles).
Day 10: Gashpapampa – Yaucha Pass – Jahuacocha, Peru
Location: Yanaqucha

Ascend to the last pass, Yaucha Pass and step down to the Laguna Jahuacocha (B/L/D)
Descend to the Angoshcancha Valley through a Quenual forest before ascending to the last pass, Yaucha Pass. If it is not too cloudy, you will get incredible views of the highest peaks of the Huayhuash Range. You might even spot at the peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. You will then step down the magnificent Laguna Jahuacocha where you will spend the night.
Note: Today's trekking distance will be about 9.2 km / 5.7 miles (4/5 hours).
Day 11: Jahuacocha, Peru
Location: Jauacocha

Get some rest at the Jahuacocha Lake or hike to the Rondoy Pass or Solteracocha Lake (B/L/D)
Today, get the opportunity to chill out at the Jahuacocha Lake or opt for an optional hike. If you choose to get some rest, you will be free to explore this magical place and admire the abundant birdlife. Otherwise, you can choose hiking to the Rondoy Pass or the beautiful Solteracocha Lake.
Day 12: Jahuacocha - Mancanpunta Pass - Pocpa - Chiquian - Huaraz, Peru

Hike to Mancanpunta Pass before you descend to Pocpa and transfer to Huaraz (B/L)
Enjoy your last trekking day hiking to Mancanpunta Pass. Take a break and get the opportunity to marvel one last time at the wonderful Andean mountains before trekking down to Pocpa. From there, you will be transferred to Huaraz where your marvelous adventure ends. Have a much-deserved rest and time to contemplate the remote treasure-filled adventure you have experienced.

Is there an age limit?
No! Most of our bamba travellers fall between the ages of 18 - 35, but everyone is young at heart and welcome to come experience the world with us! If you are between the ages of 18 and 118, we invite you to travel with bamba and have the time of your life! Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?
Most of our trips cater to the adventurous independent traveller. In fact, many of our travellers arrive on their own and quickly find that they easily meet like-minded people along the way at their hostels, on transportation, or during activities.

Do I need travel insurance?
We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for your trip, especially when travelling in developing countries. Bamba does not include travel insurance of any type.Your current medical insurance may cover part of your trip, so it is important for you to become familiar with your current coverage. We recommend purchasing additional travel insurance that provides coverage for medical emergencies, emergency evacuation and repatriation, lost or stolen items and unforeseen cancellations. If you plan to participate in activities such as white-water rafting, trekking, sand-buggy rides, etc please make sure they are included in your policy.
