It is known for Galle Fort, the fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. Stone seawalls, expanded by the Dutch, encircle car-free streets with architecture reflecting Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Notable buildings include the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church. Galle Lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip. Built by the Dutch, beginning in 1663, Galle's core is the Fort, a walled enclave surrounded on three sides by the ocean. A key part of the Fort’s appeal is that it isn’t just a pretty place. Sure, tourism now dominates the local economy, but this unique city remains a working community: there are administrative offices and courts, export companies, schools and colleges. After taking lunch take a walk around the old galle fort and at the end of the day we take you back to your hotel. ...more ...less

Day 2 : Galle to Sinharaja Rain Forest

Location: Sinharaja Rain Forest

Pick you up from Galle hotel. Transfer to Sinharaja Rain Forest. Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The hilly virgin rainforest, part of the Sri Lanka lowland rain forests ecoregion, was saved from the worst of commercial logging by its inaccessibility, and was designated a World Biosphere Reserve in 1978 and a World Heritage Site in 1988. The reserve's name translates as Kingdom of the Lion. The reserve is only 21 km (13 mi) from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km (4.3 mi) from north to south, but it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants and the 15 or so leopards are rarely seen. The most common larger mammal is the endemic Purple-faced Langur. Take part in a trekking trip of 5 to 6 hours covering the most important areas of Sinharaja Rain Forest to see Birds such as Jungle Fowl, Brown Capped Babbler, Spot Winged Thrush, Scaly Thrush and Malabar Trogon and many other birds, Butterflies and endemic plants. Ramayana Tour and Bentota Beach Experience

10-Apr-2024

From the time we landed in Colombo to the time we left Colombo back home Buddhika at Ceylon Travel dream and our great Guide Chamila took amazing care of us. Chamila was very informative and treated us like family, we travelled and visited a lot of places in Sri Lanka, he was very caring with my elderly family members and gave us an excellent tour around Sri Lanka. Ceylon Travel dream was very accommodating and very adjusting around our itinerary, they provided us with all the information and was easy to communicate with them, highly recommend them for future travels to Sri Lanka. ...more ...less

Ceylon Travel - One Stop solution for Sri Lanka

01-Jul-2024

Having decided fairly early on, Sri Lanka was set as our go to place for the honeymoon having an optimal mix of land, water, mountains with lush greenery. All research conducted pointed towards having a tour guide for ease of travel and arrangements, and thats when we stumbled upon Ceylon travels (having also heard of them through a friend) Our experience with Buddhika, from Ceylon travel and dreams has been nothing short of extraordinary. He was incredibly patient in hearing our interests, highly accommodating of our proposed changes in the journey and always willing to find the solution. He not only provided us with the optimal route for our 10 day trip but also booked plausibly the best hotels within our budger. We have had the best trip of our lives, all thanks to Buddhika, and his excellent tour guide who I would rate amongst the best in Sri Lanka. The tour guide (also the driver) whose name was also Buddhika is a very kind hearted man, and took care of us like family. Overall, this trip far exceeded our expectations and cannot wait to be back with the wider family, and obviously doing all the arrangements through Ceylon. ...more ...less
