Tour Overview

Dreaming of crystal-clear waters, whitewashed villages, historical ruins, lively Greek culture and deliciously fresh cuisine straight from the sea? Then sail from Santorini to Mykonos on this eight-day boat trip in Greece. Spend blissed-out days under sun drenched skies enjoying the best of the Greek Islands, including Santorini, Ios, Amorgos, the Small Cyclades, Naxos and Mykonos. Watch the sunset, explore olive groves, feast on fresh food and wine and fall asleep to the gentle rocking of your yacht every night.

Highlights

  • Spend your days island-hopping in the Cyclades, swimming in the clear waters of the Aegean Sea and sleeping aboard a private yacht.

  • See Santorini, where the blue and white villages cling to the rim of an ancient volcano – don't worry, the only fire you’ll see is in the island’s magnificent sunsets.

  • Break bread with locals in the sleepy fishing villages of the Small Cyclades islands, away from the typical tourist trail.

  • Taste rural life on the large island of Naxos – a great mix of historic neighbourhoods, gorgeous views and tasty Kitron liqueur.

  • Explore a place where Europe’s chic and beautiful come to play – consider staying a few extra days after your trip to soak up the beauty, charm and sunsets of Mykonos.

Day 1: Santorini – Ios

Location: Santorini – Ios

Accommodation: Overnight boat

Accommodation Name: Overnight boat

Kalimera! Welcome to Greece. You’ll meet your skipper at 1 pm at Cafe Spartakos, where your adventure will immediately begin. If you arrive in Santorini early (and it’s recommended that you do), maybe check out the local restaurants, shops and bars in Fira or walk along the caldera's rim to Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia for sunset. Santorini's volcanic beaches are another must-see. Check out Red Beach or the black beaches of Perissa, Vlhada, Perivolos and Agios Georgios. The first port of call is the local supermarket to buy supplies as a group. The starter pack will include provisions for some breakfasts, lunches and/or snacks. If you have any special dietary requirements, please make sure you notify your agent at the time of booking so they can accommodate your requests. Then, board a ferry from Santorini to Ios and walk the short distance to your yacht – your home for the next seven nights. When you’ve settled in, check out the nearby sandy beaches on Ios or head to Hora's shops, restaurants and bars (a short walk from the harbour), which all come alive in the evening. Your skipper can suggest the best bar to watch the sun go down as you get to know your new travelling companions.

Day 2: Amorgos

Location: Amorgos

Accommodation: Overnight boat

Accommodation Name: Overnight boat

Visit the mountainous island of Amorgos today, known for Luc Bresson's film 'The Big Blue.' Amorgos has evidence of society as far back as 4000 BC! At Katapola, the island's main port, you'll see classic Cycladic architecture with windmills and an old Venetian castle. Stroll the waterfront, explore the ancient Minoan settlement or visit the village of Hora (Amorgos town), which sits high on the rocky mountainside. Maybe drive up to the 11th-century monastery, Moni Hozoviotissis, gripping the cliff face with views across the Aegean Sea.

Day 7: Mykonos

Location: Mykonos

Accommodation: Overnight boat

Accommodation Name: Overnight boat

Lifting anchor, set off on a short sail to Mykonos, arriving in the late afternoon. This classic Mediterranean island boasts white-washed architecture and narrow streets and laneways perfect for exploring. The hum of the nightlife, cafes, restaurants, galleries and boutiques give way to the island's best sandy beaches. Soak in the atmosphere by joining fellow sun-seekers and partygoers on the beach or take a daytrip to the sacred island of Delos – the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. Little Venice has colourful wooden balconies that hang precariously over the sea, and this is the perfect spot to sit back with a cocktail and enjoy an Aegean sunset.

Day 8: Mykonos

Location: Mykonos

Your trip ends today at around 10 am this morning on Mykonos. There are no activities planned, but it’s recommended you book an extra night of accommodation so you have plenty of time to explore and soak up the beauty of this famed island. If you need help booking a few extra days, just get in touch with your booking agent ahead of time.

Accommodation

This trip is accommodated entirely on board a yacht of between 54ft to 56ft. A typical yacht for 11 travellers is equipped with a mixture of 2 x double cabins, 2 x twin cabins and 1 x triple cabin. There are 5 shared bathrooms. Our boats are real yachts and this is a real sailing trip. Yachts are designed to keep sleeping areas to the absolute minimum of space, while maximising common areas as much as possible.Rooms are allocated on arrival by our skipper according to group composition, which means it is not possible to reserve or guarantee any specific berth or cabin. Single passengers will be paired up with another passenger of the same gender, this may mean sharing a double cabin with a double mattress. Everyone including the skipper shares the bathrooms on board. While not everyone may feel entirely comfortable living in such close quarters, those who are looking to revel in the adventure and exhilaration of an authentic sailing trip usually find any discomfort from cramped living conditions is more than made up for by the whole experience.ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION:Please note that the majority of our sailing trips start and/or finish at a marina or port. For most of our destinations, we can provide transfers between the airport/hotel and the port/marina. Please check the joining and finish point information in the trip notes for details.ELECTRICITY:While there should be electricity on board throughout your trip the voltage is likely to vary widely, from 12V to 220V, and when in port or moored we are dependent on the supply available. Please be aware that the supply may not be sufficient to power some electronic devices all the time and that you may need a voltage adapter or similar (such as portable inverter used in cars). On some trips it may be possible to charge devices ashore at restaurants or resorts, however this is not guaranteed.WI-FI:Please note that our sailing boats do not have Wi-Fi. You will be getting off the boat and visiting towns regularly so you will be able to connect with the outside world then.

We do not provide transfers between hotels and the port/marina. Please check the Essential Trip Information for joining and finishing points.SNORKELLINGThere are many opportunities for snorkelling during this trip. Some customers may prefer to bring their own diving mask and snorkel from home and just use the fins available on board.TRIP KITTY:On this trip we highly recommend that you contribute to a kitty of EUR100 per person. The kitty is an on-ground payment put into a central fund managed by travellers. It helps fund for breakfast and lunch on the boat and other small items such as ice, water, snacks and drinks. Travellers are responsible for the preparation of these meals onboard and to shop at port where supermarkets are often very close to the mooring. Check out our Q&As

  • Is this trip right for you

The majority of this trip takes place on a sailing boat and need to feel comfortable moving about the vessel, including the use of stairs. With that said, sea legs come naturally to some but not so much for others – it's recommended that you bring sea sickness medication just in case.

Our yachts have a small Zodiac on board, used to transport travellers to shore if we need to anchor in the bay. However, we will most often overnight in the small marinas on each island we visit, so the Zodiacs aren’t used. Zodiacs can sometimes be awkward to climb in and out of, but a sense of humour and a can-do attitude are all you need.

This is an adventure on board a real yacht, which means living spaces, cabins, bathrooms and showers need to be shared with other passengers. Sleeping quarters can be quite compact, but you will be spending the majority of your time above board in the open air.

Time on the water also means time in the sun. Remember to pack sun protection, such as sunscreen and a hat, and drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. See ‘Essential Trip Information’ below for a full packing list.

Please note that smooth sailing is dependent on the weather, so itinerary changes may occur at the last minute if the weather becomes unfavourable. If any changes are made, you can trust in your knowledgeable skipper to choose an alternative route or activity.

Due to the size of the yachts, sound carries easily from one side to the other and can wake your fellow travellers. If you’re planning to have a late night, it’s a good idea to head into town and experience the local night life.

If you’re travelling with your own group of friends or family and would like to book a private departure on this sailing trip, our Tailor-Made team will be happy to help: https://www.intrepidtravel.com/tailor-made

Just leaving a review to share how much I enjoyed my Central America trip. I thought the guide, Aura was so knowledgeable and organised and clearly a great ambassador for Intrepid. She gave us lots of information on each region, helped us organise anything we needed and dealt with queries from passengers very well and diplomatically. She made the trip run smoothly. She was also keen to explain the Intrepid vision and how the company values making a difference to locals and is a credit to your company. I did Guatemala and beyond and thoroughly enjoyed it - very fast paced, lots to see and do and a great overview of the region. I would definitely recommend 👍

I just completed my first Intrepid tour which was 33 days travelling around Central America - I had the time of my life! It was great to have the benefit of a guide (Fluffy was amazing!) and be able to ask questions at any point, but I also liked the freedom that you were permitted throughout. The group tour made boarder crossings seamless and the whole process felt easy - there was never one hiccup. As a solo female traveller, I felt safe throughout, and I cannot recommend Central America enough - the people, the food, the sun and the activities were just amazing :) Can't wait to book my next adventure soon!

I have just come back home after doing Intrepid's 10-day Vietnam Express Northbound tour. What a SUPERB tour. We saw lots and did lots, it was jam-packed full of sights and activities. Our tour leader, Tam, was the best ever. Very knowledgeable, organised and lots of fun too. The other 10 people on the group were all lovely. The places we visited were very interesting. We even visited local homes and ate just like the local people do. I highly recommend Intrepid to anyone considering touring a new country. This was my 5th tour with them and they have consistently been fantastic.

I have travelled with Intrepid a number of times now and can't recommend them enough. The trips are always exciting, full of history and immersive in the culture and environment. The office staff are great too and always happy to help with any questions you might have. Everywhere I have gone with the company has been different but the guides and itinerary have always been excellent and full of knowledge and passion for their country. Add in the social responsibility angle the company has and it top quality ethical practice and you can't go wrong

15-Mar-2024

I recently went on an 11 day tour of India with Intrepid and was impressed with every aspect of the tour, the tour leader and the organisation behind the scenes. I always travel alone so it was a big deal to join a tour, I didn't want to feel less independent or ferried about. I loved being part of a group and the things we saw and did on the tour, I would never have known about or seen if I had been by myself. I loved it from start to finish. Yes the overnight trains were not easy to sleep on, but I managed. Meeting locals on board was a high light for me. English is widely spoken in India and its amazing who you strike up a chat with. I had two problems on the tour - one my own fault and one hotel related. The support from Intrepid was amazing. I cannot thank them enough for going the extra mile to support me. I recommend Intrepid 100% and have gone from thinking an organised tour is for people who don't know about Lonely Planet and can't do solo stuff, to realising its a faster, better, more fun way to get to know a country truly and deeply whilst on a bit of a budget. I will book again and again with Intrepid. I loved it that much! Big thanks to tour leader Daddy H. Devender for his help on day one, and Nick in the Oz office for his fab customer care skills. Also the person who staffed the emergency whatsapp in India - you saved my sanity helping me get there a day late! THANK YOU ALL X

12-Oct-2021

This was my first international solo trip, but I never felt “alone” - there was always someone to go shopping, hike, or grab a quick bite with. The itinerary was a great balance between organized activities, while still allowing free time for exploring. Each location was unique and charming in its own way. Spending the night in the holy city of Moulay Idriss and wandering the winding streets of Chefchaouen were especially memorable. Thank you Mustapha and Intrepid for an incredible adventure!

I have just completed a 12 day food tour of Vietnam, and had an amazing time. Our tour leader was great, knowledgeable and kind, who helped throughout the trip with recommendations for places on our free days, and spas. All the food we tried was delicious. It is a very fast paced tour, and Bon tried to maximise our experiences for the best.

13-Aug-2024

We had a fantastic time on the Botswana Highlights tour recently. We chose Intrepid because it seemed to suit what we wanted - well planned itinerary, small group, comfortable without being overly luxurious (and pricey), and supportive of the local community and environment. We weren't disappointed, and as we met with other like-minded travellers then we all had a great time. We are already planning our next Intrepid tour - maybe Vietnam & Cambodia :-)
