Tour Overview

The Lemosho Route is a very beautiful and unspoilt route and sightings of wild game in the forest section is possible. The Lemosho route is one of the quieter routes up Kilimanjaro, this advantage however disappears when the route combines with the Machame route on the 3rd day of the hike. For those seeking a quiet route away from the crowds, the route is a superior option to the Rongai route. Unlike the Rongai the Lemosho route has the same excellent pro-acclimatization features of the Machame route, which it joins just before reaching Lava Tower. We do not recommend hiking the Lemosho route during the rainy season as the start point of the Lemosho Route is particularly inaccessible during the wet season. Climbers should be prepared to walk the final 2-5 kilometers of the road following heavy rains. The journey time to reach the start point is quite long and joined to the possibility of not reaching the end of the road by vehicle head torches may well be needed to reach Forest Camp on day 1. The route descents along the Mweka Route, a descent-only route.

Day 1 : Lemosho Gate Hike

Location: Lemosho Route

Accommodation: Camp

Accommodation Name: Mti mkubwa

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A guide and support crew will arrive at the hotel in the morning in order to meet you and hold another briefing. Then you will travel by vehicle for 3-4 hours to the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park, known as Lemosho Gate (2,200 m). After another few hours of formalities with the park rangers at the gate and you will be on the trail. The group will stop for a light snack then start the 3-4 hour hike towards the Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,780 m).
Raincoats are necessary on this day in particular, as you will be walking through the rainforest. The trail goes through the lowland forests where you’re likely to spot the large Colobus monkeys which are fairly common .By the time you reach the camp, our professional mountain crew will prepare everything necessary, put tents up and cook lunch for you. After lunch the group will depart on an acclimatization hike towards Shira 1 Camp that features a 300 meter gain in altitude, after which you will hike back down to Mti Mkubwa Camp, where a hot dinner will be waiting.
Note: The acclimatization hike is an easy trek with a slight gain in altitude done in order to speed up the acclimatization process. You should take the acclimatization hikes very seriously.
At night you may experience discomfort associated with acclimatization to the high altitude: because of a reduction in your waking breathing pattern, your body gets less oxygen than during the day. Taking altitude into account, you may therefore start feeling sick and have a headache. Pay attention to your own body and tell your guide if you start feeling any symptoms of altitude sickness.

At that point for the first time you will be able to see stunning views of Shira Plateau and Kibo Volcano. On the whole, the passage from Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) is rather easy and takes about 5-6 hours. This will allow you to start the acclimatization process gradually, which is important to have a successful climb. When you reach the camp, your team of specialists will cook you lunch and you will have the chance to rest in your tent or walk around the nearby area.

After lunch we will pass by the Arrow Glacier (4876m) Then you will descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m). Here you can see the famous Barranco Wall, and get to rest and enjoy a warm dinner.
Note: Although you end the day at the same elevation you began at, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help you prepare for the summit day.

7 Days Kilimanjaro Climb Machame Route

20-Mar-2023

Fantastic tour up Mount Kilimanjaro thanks to our outstanding team. Our tour guides were excellent in every way! We had a blast with them; they were seasoned climbers and genuinely kind folks. It was amazing how the athletic experience also became a human adventure. Once again, I want to thank you and the crew for those incredible moments: Because of the support and encouragement we received from this crew throughout the day, all eight of us made it to the summit. Without a hesitation, I would suggest Kilimanjaro Habitas Safaris and his crew. Best wishes.
