Our guide and driver were superb

18-Apr-2024

We just returned from our group trip to Ghana organized by Landtours. The trip was a fantastic experience and my wife and I enjoyed learning more about Ghana. The trip was aided by the amazing job that was done by our driver (Francis Yeboah) and guide (Mohammed). They were both excellent. Francis did a great job driving the large van, ensuring we arrived safely and his driving style never made us nervous. Mohammed was superb, his deep knowledge of Ghana, its history and culture were always on display. He was extremely patient and thorough answering our questions and guiding us through the various events of the week. Ghana is a beautiful country and we went to a lot of amazing places, but it is worth reiterating how much Mohammed and Francis added to making the trip so special. You have two very talented individuals working for your company. ...more ...less

Visit to highest peaks of Ghana, Togo and Benin. Expensive trip, could be better organized.

21-May-2019

General: Successful expedition, reaching the 3 highpoints of the countries Car: Good car, we could have managed with a smaller one. Some of the roads could have been difficult if we had rain, but we managed without 4WD Hotels: Trouble at all places. They did not have 3 beds at any of the places, but it was fixed after some waiting tme. Swimming pool only available in Accra. In Abomey they only have one room with one bed and no aircondition. We refused to stay there, and after a while they had fixed another hotel. In Kara and Abomey we ended up with 2 of us in beds and one sleeping on a madrass on the floor. Guide in Ghana: Average. It was a great experience for him to get to the highpoint of Ghana, so I think he is happy Guide in Togo/Benin: Poor. He did not meet up at the Togo border, then he was in Lome. We met him at Agou. He did not know the route, and had trouble finding the way. No map, only a phone with GPS, that did not work at all locations. I also had a feeling that he was not able to read the GPS map on his phone properly. Luckily I had downloaded a map for most of the route to my Garmin GPS, and that helped us. In some areas I did not have a good map on my GPS. In these situations they had to stop and ask people along the road. The guide misleaded us several times, and I had to check and correct. His english was not the best, even if he was an english teacher. Driver: Excellent. He really did the job for us on this trip. Very good driving on all type of roads at any time. Day 3 was very long. We started early and had a long drive on difficult roads up to the Ghana peak. Then some trouble with wrong navigation around Agou due to mistakes from the guide. Very long drive up to Kara, ending up in the dark just before Kara. There the guide leaded us to a road with oneway traffic coming against us over a bridge. We got stuck on the bridge and had to reverse with traffic coming towards us, and a lot of motorbikes coming from behind on this narrow bridge. I admire the driver for staying calm in such a situation, especially after 12 hours on the road with very small breaks. He also had to cover up for the mistakes done by the guide in Togo/Benin. Actually he was the guy that fixed everything in Togo/Benin, and we would have done better without the guide. Value for money: I think the trip was very expensive, and we had expected more quality, especially regarding the hotels. When arriving at a hotel after a long day, hungry and tired, we no not want trouble with the rooms. ...more ...less
