Led by a professional and passionate guide, visit Greece's most important UNESCO-heritage sites such as the mythical site of Olympia, the Temple of Apollo in Delphi famous for its oracle and Mycenae, home to the kingdom of King Agamemnon.Prehistory, the Classical period, Roman domination, the Byzantine Empire, the Crusades and Modern times: Greece through the centuries will unfold before you on this three days tour.ItineraryDay 1After your pick up from your Athens central hotel, depart via the coastal National highway for the strategically Corinth Canal (short stop).Continue to Epidaurus and visit the Ancient theatre, world famous for its outstanding acoustics.Then proceed and visit the land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, an UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece. You will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon & Clytemnestra’s, and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure.Then depart in the afternoon for Olympia, the birth place of the Olympic Games, through Central Peloponnese and the towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis.Dinner and overnight in Olympia.Day 2In the morning after breakfast at the hotel, take a tour to Olympia archaeological site with the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the altar of the Olympic flame, the Ancient Stadium and the archaeological Museum.Then drive through the plains of Eliad and Achaia until the magnificent bridge which is crossing the Corinthian Bay from Rion to Antirion. Pass by the picturesque city of Nafpaktos and Itea and from there on, arrive in Delphi, known in ancient times as the navel of the world. In the afternoon visit the picturesque mountain village of Arachova.Dinner and overnight stay in Delphi.Day 3In the morning, after breakfast, visit the Archaeological Site and the Museum of Delphi.Delphi remains one of the most important UNESCO world heritage sites in Europe.Pass by Castalia spring, visit the archaeological site & the museum of Delphi, and view the monument of the Argive Kings, the temple of Pronaia, the treasury of the Athenians, the Athenian Stoa, the Polygonal Wall, the monument of Platea and the Temple of Apollo famous for its oracle and Delphi museum, with it’s spectacular exhibits include the frieze of the Treasury of the Sifnians, the Naxian Sphinx, the Statue of Antinoos the metopes of the Athenian treasury, the famous bronze Charioteer, and many other artifacts.Have a couple of hours free time in Delphi before departing and drive through the village of Arachova, renowned for its colorful rugs and carpets.Return to Athens via Levadia and Thebes. Arrive in Athens early in the evening.
