There are still tens of thousands of Copts in Egypt, many of whom live in Old Cairo. Their most famous church is that of El Muallaqa, the Hanging Church, built over one of the gateways into the old fortress, its nave suspended above the passageway. Also in Old Cairo the saint's Sergius church has The Crypt where the Holy Family took shelter during their flee to Egypt, also there is the synagogue of Ben Ezra. (Under restoration) Once home to many Jewish families, few now remain scattered throughout Cairo. The relocation of the temples was a historic event in the 1960s. At that time, the temples were threatened by submersion in Lake Nasser when the High Dam was constructed. The Egyptian government with the support of UNESCO launched a worldwide appeal to save these colossal landmarks. They were successfully dismantled and relocated to a spot 60 meters above the cliff where they had been initially built. The more famous of the two temples is dedicated to Ramses II and the smaller one to his favorite wife Queen Nefertari. They were both built by Ramses II in the 13th century BC. The gigantic facade of Ramses II temple represents four colossal, seated figures of Ramses. The facade is 119 feet wide, 100 feet high, and the statues are each 67 feet high. The facade door leads to the interior of the temple is a 185 feet long man-made rock cave that leads to a series of halls and rooms. The most remarkable feature of the temple of Abu-Simbel is that the construction is oriented in a way that twice a year, the morning sun rays shine through the length of the inner temple cave and illuminate the statues of the four gods seated at the end of the cave. After this visit back to Aswan by flight have your lunch on your cruise then visit another landmark the temple of Philae dedicated to the goddess Isis, known as the Mother Goddess, the temple of Philae is located in a beautiful setting, landscaped to match the original site of the temple when it was relocated by UNESCO after the building of the Aswan Dam threatened the site. LIFETIME EXPERIENCE with Look at Egypt Tours

18-Mar-2020

I was very impressed with this company and Ahmed the owner. I, like you had some reservations when it came to booking and researched as well as contacted many companies before Choosing look at Egypt. We visited Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan for our honeymoon in December and I was extremely satisfied and happy with the company. From the moment we landed we were greeted at the terminal to pass immigration and until our departure we were well taken care of, the staff even going above and beyond to accommodate any requests we had. The transportations are all brand new vehicles, air conditioned and clean. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and kind. I felt very safe as well in Egypt and look at Egypt tours took care of everything for us so we never had to do anything for ourselves besides enjoy our vacation and feel like kings and queens. Very well organized Egypt tour...

26-Sep-2023

Very well organized Egypt tour with Look at Egypt tours based in Cairo. We chose them because of great review onTripadvisor and very competitive good price. This is mainly a semi-private tour ( small group of 3-4 couples ) according to our date and what we want to see. Every communication was easily done by email and later via whatsapp. They answer fast to all your inquiry and questions. After we give them what we wish to see and do , Ahmed, the CEO of the company proposes a plan . They organize everything from A to Z with great 5 stars hotel , 5 stars 3 night cruise and all the local flights the entry tickets for every sites and museum. All the local flights We always have a guide and a driver to every historic sites and transfer. The guides are very good and helpful. From the 1st day at Cairo Airport, where Mahmoud greets you inside the airport BEFORE the customs exit. And miraculously, while there were very long waiting lines to pass through the custom agents, Mahmoud makes us pass the customs without any waiting !! And he charges our phone with egyptian SIM card himself. It was a very good thing to have a master guide such as Walid who was the coordonator of all trip . He takes care of you from the first to the last day. After, everything went on smoothly exactly as planned. We had great guides such as Dahlia for the Cairo and pyramids portion, Mu for AbuSimbel and Nile Cruise . They are with you for every transfer by minivan, to airport and to hotels and cruise. The last segment of 4 night in All inclusive Hilton at Hurghada beach in the Red Sea was pure relaxation without any sightseeing ( as we requested) . We truly enjoy our trip with this Company !! ...more ...less

Overall, we had a good...

31-Jan-2025

Overall, we had a good time in Egypt. And our experience with Look at Egypt Tours was mostly good as well. The good: 1. Prompt responses before the deposit was made: responses usually received within a day or two 2. Airport and hotel pickups were always prompt 3. All the drivers and guides were friendly 4. The tours were mostly private, except during the Nile cruise portion 5. We used our own hotels and the final tour cost was adjusted accordingly 6. All the vans that were provided by the company were clean and comfortable. The not-so-good: 1. Two weeks before our departure, I sent off a list of questions and did not receive a response until 8 days later. During the wait, I had to wonder if the company was still in business. 2. The tour manager applied high pressure to sell optional tours. We did the hot balloon ride in Luxor. And that's the only one we'd do again. The night Nile cruise with dinner and belly dance was the worst. We did this tour after flying back with Aswan after 7 pm. We boarded the boat at 8:15 pm. The dances started soon. The volume of the music was torturous. The main dancer was middle-aged and unattractive. And she was not even an Arab per our driver. The dinner was served around 9:30. I was starving by then. The sound and light shows of the Giza pyramids were just ok. The pyramids were dimly lit. 3. On the last day, we purchased another optional tour for Grand Egyptian Museum. It was advertised as a half day tour . But the company did not add a half-day time to our original tour schedule. We got about 90 minutes extra time at best. ...more ...less
