Tour Overview

Traditional Ayurveda treatment and workout practices encompass a diverse range of holistic therapies aimed at harmonizing mind, body, and spirit. Rooted in ancient wisdom, these practices have stood the test of time and continue to offer profound healing benefits in today's world. At the core of Ayurvedic philosophy are the three essential forces known as Vata, Kapha, and Pitta, representing the elements of wind, earth, and fire respectively. These forces govern various aspects of our being and understanding their balance is fundamental to Ayurvedic diagnosis and treatment. Before the advent of Western medicine, Ayurveda served as the primary healthcare system in many regions, relying on herbs, nutrition, and lifestyle interventions to promote wellness and treat ailments. Its efficacy in addressing certain diseases often surpasses conventional medical approaches, garnering recognition and adoption even in the Western world. Today, Ayurveda has seamlessly integrated into luxury hospitality, with specialized instructors and expert staff available in upscale hotels to cater to guests' wellness needs. From rejuvenating body massages to herbal baths and steam therapies, these establishments offer a plethora of Ayurvedic treatments aimed at restoring vitality and promoting relaxation. Some Ayurvedic resorts feature ancient healing traditions such as "beheth oru," where individuals are immersed in herbal-infused baths to revitalize and renew the body. These immersive experiences harken back to age-old practices, providing a unique opportunity for holistic healing. Embarking on a journey of Ayurveda and yoga retreats offers a respite from the stresses of daily life combining yoga sessions with Ayurvedic treatments tailored to restore balance and vitality. At state-of-the-art wellness centers, skilled therapists guide guests on a transformative journey of self-discovery and renewal. Signature treatments, ranging from traditional massages to personalized healing rituals, are designed to address specific imbalances and promote overall well-being.

Dambulla cave temple also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla is a World Heritage Site A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka
Sigiriya is a long story. The rock came into being as a result of a rivalry between two brothers. The great rock fortress, Sigiriya was built by King Kashyapa. King Kashyapa made this great place to protect himself from his brother King Mogallana. The Sigiriya rock is entwined with a tragic event. The heir to the throne had been King Mogallana, but King Kashyapa had taken power by force. King Kashaya was afraid that his brother would come back again to take back his right to the throne. Therefore, to protect himself, he built this rock fortress. He did not want any invasion to happen by his brother. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meter’s height The technology that has been used in creating the fort is excellent. However, Moggallana was able to defeat Kashyapa, and after that, the rock fortress was destroyed. Earlier it used to be a Buddhist monastery, and after the palace was destroyed, it became a Buddhist monastery once again. Sigiriya was discovered later in 1831 by Europeans. A major of the British army, Jonathan Forbes discovered Sigiriya on his way from Polonnaruwa. Many historians and archaeologists started excavating this rock fortress, and it is through the excavations that all the glory of the rock was discovered Dambulla cave temple also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla is a World Heritage Site A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m2 ) are of particular importance, Temple has five caves and 157 statues of the Lord Buddha, many paintings on the ceilings and walls that emphasis the artistic talent of ancient days. The history of the caves, rock and temple dates from the 1st century BC. The fascination of these caves is not only the statues but also the many intricate and delicate paintings that cover the ceiling and walls, created with indigenous traditional paints. Because of the history, archaeological and artistic implications, the premises were declared as one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1991 situated in the central part of the country the temple has been in use for over 22 centuries and still holds a sense of benevolence and spirituality. Visitors may climb up steps to the temple and the view from the top of the rock is as inspiring as the temple’s golden interior.

Ayurveda Tour-

What can I say... Am solo traveler from U.A.E It was an absolutely incredible stay? The tranquility and peace in a beautiful garden surrounded by a bay and lake, daily massages and other treatments, yoga sessions, delectable food, and the genuine smiles of the staff. I can understand why because he's exceptionally professional. After my first consultation, he immediately identified the diseases and problems I had, even though I didn't tell him anything. I have transformed into a completely new person! I feel lighter, more joyful, and I wholeheartedly recommend Ayurveda Tour with Stelaran holidays. I felt much stronger and healthier, and I was truly relaxed during my stay. Special thanks to our chauffeur-guide, who felt like my personal bodyguard, always with me.

We had a wonderful experience with Stelaran Holidays. The organization of the tours perfectly matched our needs. All treatments, yoga sessions, and accommodations were meticulously planned, providing an authentic experience. The staff was not only incredibly friendly but also highly professional. The owner of the travel company was particularly remarkable; he took the time to engage with us personally and went above and beyond to ensure our happiness and a flawless stay. They were willing to arrange anything we desired, demonstrating their dedication to customer satisfaction. The doctor affiliated with the tour is renowned for their expertise, and rightfully so. During my initial consultation, the doctor accurately identified my ailments without any prior information from me, showcasing their exceptional professionalism. The hotel's Ayurvedic doctors were also top-notch. I wholeheartedly recommend embarking on an Ayurvedic tour with Stelaran Holidays. My experience left me feeling rejuvenated, healthier, and deeply relaxed.

I really enjoyed the ayurveda tour, which I customized to do some sight-seeing as well. Mr. Lal went out of his way to make the tour memorable, driving for over 10 hours on some days so that I could see as much as possible, and get a good dive into the Sri Lankan culture, cuisine and lifestyle.

Concise review: Good value for money, well-organized, excellent pre-tour communication, fantastic way to wind down and get in relaxed headspace. Great way to become more familiar with an unknown country. But most importantly, fantastic treatments by caring professionals. Detailed review: I found this ayurvedic vacation easy, it was without problem largely due to the fact many of the staff at both hotels speak understandable English and are only too happy to assist in anyway. The Ayurvedic Treatment Specialists at both hotels spoke excellent English, as do many reception and restaurant staff. I loved the Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort! It was superb! ROOMS: Large, impeccably clean, airconditioned room, thoughtfully providing the extras normally found in high-end resorts such as woven palm leaf tote bags to use to carry my belongings to treatment sessions (very handy and helpful), lungi (wrap sarong) so that my clothes did not absorb the oils after massage, umbrella, slippers, bathrobe, filtered water, and an extended range of toiletries - dental and shaver packs, showercap. Room was enhanced by balcony, very deep bath and original art work. In fact the hotel had original art work everywhere. Each floor of the hotel had large filtered water coolers from which I could replenish my room supply. Solar energy was used for the hot water... it was hot and never ran out even when filling the exlarge bath. GENERAL HOTEL FACILITIES: Food was the best I had in Sri Lanka (nothing like Indian), labelled (I like knowing what it is I am eating), and each day offered something different. The palm honey over buffalo curd was wonderful! Pool was perfectly clean and I noticed someone cleaning and attending to it each day. The restaurant, pool area, and outdoor lounge areas had a lovely, restful vista over the river and wall of jungle opposite. Hotel offered something of interest to do each day - free of charge. Reception also offered outside activities beyond the hotel that you could book at a fee. Hotel is set in local, residential area where dogs can be a worry, however there is a sign at Reception that offers to have a staff member walk with guests should they like to go on a local walk. Yoga on the rooftop run just after dawn...just Ok. Botanical gardens are interesting, growing fruit and veg I have never heard of before... and then I would find them at the buffet for dinner! The Ayurveda Specialists do conduct tours of the gardens. My favourite part of this resort is the treatment rooms area and the wonderful staff that work there. The doctors spoke with me daily and were open to my wants and needs. The rooms are open to the river and jungle and are serene..... dreamy. The women who work in the treatment rooms were happy, jovial, genuinely welcoming, warm people who were obviously well trained. Madu and Ayesha each provided me with three hours of bliss.... I can see why they call them treatment rooms. During my time in Sri Lanka I was repeatedly provided with more than I expected. This holds true for the treatments received. Madu and Ayesha were both excellent hosts, more than competent and generous in their treatments. A head massage by Madu was marvellous. Ayesha's delicate fingers were able to convey a tenderness and intimacy, while giving me a facial, that was certainly out of the ordinary... I felt cherished.... I may never have another as fine. Yes, it was that good! I particularly love the way the treatment beds are decorated with flowers. Ayesha had constructed quite an elaborate display, not sure if I should lay down on the flowers or remove them, I sought her instruction. She said I should lie down on the flowers and feel like a princess! Finally, at the end of the 3 hours of treatment, Ayesha gave me a boutique of frangipani. Oh my God... this has ruined me for life.... How can other spa experiences compete with this! I was grateful for the disposable cloth underwear that they provide as the oils do stain clothes! The Maho Paradise Hotel is also very good. They greet you with a lei, fresh coconut, ginger biscuits, platter of fruit....very generous but a little overwhelming as I could not hold or carry them all. Large grounds, two large pools to choose from, numerous wall murals and extensive use of art. Treatment centre is perfect for deep rest - dark and silent. Achini was masterful and kind and supervised several new experiences .... it turned further treatments into an adventure. Again many staff speak English. Hotel is very close to the Yapahuwa Rock Fortress from medieval times, and it is very worth visiting. The views from the top are marvellous. Room is large, air conditioned, has mosquito net and a real sense of privacy. My guide met me at the airport with a shell lei. I had thought I would be picked up from the airport, dropped to the first resort and then only see the guide on the day I was transferred to the next resort. No. The guide is there staying at the same resorts (different blocks) as you are. This was unexpected. My guide was keen to please and flexible to devise days, and then change them, to suit me. The driving was exotic..... rice and corn being dried on the road, mongoose spotted on the side of the road, eating corn being cooked on the side of the road, drinking from coconuts. My guide was good enough to stop when I showed an interest in something. He showed me a ran dothalu flower... only now do I understand why he said it was "Special" ..... thank you. On my final day he assisted me in gaining a window seat on a train that ran from Maho to Galle, so that during the trip I was on the ocean side....thank you. It is an enjoyable journey that I thoroughly enjoyed and which Sonali of Stelaran organized for me at no charge. Thank you, Sonali. However, I found I understood only about a third of what my guide said. While I think he would say that he understood me, I could tell from his answers that he often did not. This lead to some misunderstandings and consequent frustrations with each other. Perhaps writing plans down may assist in forming shared understandings. I don't feel that I needed a guide the whole time. It added a pressure that was unexpected and unwanted. However, having your own personal guide 24/7 does open up opportunities should you want to do more than rest and relax, and it would provide you with someone to assist you should you need it.
