Lapped by the Pacific Ocean on one side, and overlooked by mountains on the other, Vancouver is nestled in one of the most dramatic locations you can think of - and we waste no time in getting to know this bustling city on a guided tour this morning. We’ll visit some of Vancouver’s most notable sights, including exotic Chinatown and Gastown, the oldest part of the city with picture-perfect heritage buildings. In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the city at your leisure. There’s so much to see, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Location: Whistler

You’ll want to keep your camera at the ready this morning as we journey from Vancouver to Whistler, passing soaring mountain scenery along the way. Edged by thick alpine forest and world-famous ski-runs, the gabled village of Whistler is the stuff dreams of alpine Canada are made of. The rest of the day is at leisure. Perhaps explore the village itself with its art centres, museums, and an abundance of shops, restaurants and cafés. Go for a leisurely stroll or sit back and enjoy one of the many sunny patios.

You’re free to explore Whistler and its surrounding mountain landscapes at leisure today. Get to know the stunning landscape with beautiful walking trails for varying abilities, or choose to join an optional excursion to search for local wildlife. Maybe you’ll spot a deer, pika, hare, chipmunk or even a black bear. You might even hear the unique call of the marmot - a rock dwelling rodent that whistles to warn other marmots of danger - and the reason behind Whistler’s name.

We travel on to Sun Peaks. This tranquil, car-free alpine resort is a great base for further exploration into Canada’s mountainscape, vibrantly coloured by wildflowers in the warmer summer months. Maybe get to know the friendly locals as you try out one of the inviting restaurants for a bite to eat.

Location: Jasper

We tour incredible Jasper National Park today - home to world-famous natural sites and some of North America's rarest animals, including grizzly bears, moose, caribou and wolves. We’ll see Maligne Canyon, over 50 metres deep at some points; serene Medicine Lake, which varies in depth by season, and Maligne Lake, well known for its stunning azure water. Before heading to bed, look out at the breathtaking night sky- the region boasts the world’s largest dark sky preserve for stargazing. A wonderfully atmospheric end to a day full of nature.

Location: Jasper

There’s the opportunity to explore the town of Jasper today. Enjoy the slower pace of this small, friendly town - maybe take a tour of Canada’s first park-based brewery, browse the local museum to learn all about the history of the National Park, and sample some of the delicious local Canadian cuisine for lunch. We’ll enjoy dinner this evening with an interpretative talk.

Location: Banff

The spectacular, winding Columbia Icefields Parkway takes us from Jasper to Banff National Park today. You won’t believe your eyes as we make our way through endless wilderness, passing pristine mountain lakes and sweeping valleys - keep an eye out for some of the local wildlife along the way. We stop off to experience an unforgettable drive in a specially adapted Ice Explorer onto the Columbia Icefield Glacier, one of the biggest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Arctic Circle. Our guide will teach us all about the glaciers and icefields (subject to weather conditions).

Location: Banff

We spend time getting to know Banff National Park today - possibly best known for its beautiful lakes. We’ll discover stunning Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. Breathe in the crisp, fresh air as you capture stunning images of these lakes filled with turquoise glacier water, which support an abundance of native wildlife including grizzly bears.

Be prepared for a truly memorable day as we board our Rocky Mountaineer train today. Take your seat and watch the scenery pass you by through the famed domed windows. We’ll wind through Canada’s stunning Rocky Mountains, alongside thundering Kicking Horse River and past thick alpine forest. This is a journey you won’t forget.

Location: Vancouver

Our unforgettable rail journey continues this morning, arriving in Vancouver where we check in to our hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore Vancouver once more.

We journey by ferry from Tsawwassen, Vancouver through narrow fjords to Swartz Bay, Victoria today. Stand on the deck and take in the fresh ocean air as you try to spot whales and dolphins, whilst admiring views of the gorgeous strait of Victoria. Once in Victoria, the rest of the day is at leisure.

The oldest city in in the Pacific Northwest, the beautiful unhurried city of Victoria has a unique charm, with its pretty colourful buildings and blooming hanging baskets. Our tour takes us amongst Victoria’s long-trodden streets before we slow down to appreciate a more serene part of the city- the most famous of Canada’s floral havens - Butchart Gardens. This 55-acre display has 900 varieties of plants and gardens influenced by Italy, Japan and its very own native culture.
Day 14
Location: Vancouver
Accommodation: In flight
We leave Victoria behind and drive to Swartz Bay, to take the ferry to Tsawwassen and onward transfer to Vancouver. We continue to the airport for our return flight to the UK.
