Join this 4-day winter city break to one of the most historic cities in the world. Visit the neighbourhood of Plaka, also known as the ‘Neighbourhood of the Gods’ due to its proximity to the Acropolis and its many archaeological sites, and visit Cape Sounio, where the white marble pillars of the Temple of Poseidon stand. Athens is a fascinating town full of well-known highlights and lesser-known surprises, which is also famous for vibrant nightlife and traditional Greek cuisine. There are several optional activities available on this tour, so it can be customised to suit your interests. TOUR HIGHLIGHTSCape Sounio – Also known in Ancient Greek as the ‘Sacred Cape’, enjoy the breath-taking 180-degree views of the Aegean Sea from the Southern-most point of the Attic peninsula. Poseidon Temple – One of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens, this temple was constructed in honour of Poseidon, the ancient god of the sea, in the middle of the fifth century B.C. Plaka – The oldest neighbourhood of Athens, with colourful narrow streets and neoclassical buildings dating from the nineteenth century. Home of its historic monuments include the Roman Agora, the Bathhouse of the Winds and Hadrian’s library.Syntagma Square – Also known as ‘Constitution Square’, this lively white marble square is also the main meeting point in the city, surrounded by famous hotels, bars and restaurants.
Itinerary
Day 1 : Arrival Athens
Location: Athens

Arrive at Athens International Airport. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Check in and enjoy some free time to freshen up after your flight. If you feel like it you can go on an optional excursion (not included):
Half-day tour of Cape Sounio: Drive along the coastal road, passing the wonderful beaches of Glyfada, Vouliagmeni & Varkiza to the most Southern point of Attica, Cape Sounion, where the white marble pillars of the Temple of Poseidon stand. On the way, you have a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf and the little islands offshore. After visiting the Temple of Poseidon, you have time to walk at leisure on the rocky promontory of Sounion.

Day 2 : Athens: Half Day City Tour
Location: Athina

Early in the morning, after breakfast, begin your half-day Athens city tour. Meet your guide, hop on to your bus and explore the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guide will take you to see the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896 (shortstop). Continue and pass by the Prime Minister's residence (ex Royal Palace) guarded by the Euzones in their colourful uniform, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Hadrian's Arch, the Parliament and the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, the Constitution Square (Syntagma). On the Acropolis visit the Architectural Masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: The Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally "the harmony between material and spirit", the monument that "puts an order in the mind", the Parthenon. Continue and visit the place where at last the statues found their home and admire the wonders of the classical era: The new Acropolis museum (due to certain restrictions in the visiting hours of the new Acropolis museum the order of the program can be changed). You will be back at the hotel at approx. at 13:30 pm. The rest of the day at leisure. Give a try to the local gastronomy at one of the Greek taverns and enjoy the flavors of the Mediterranean coast or stroll down to ancient streets one more time and absorb this exclusive atmosphere on your own.

Day 3 : Athens
Location: Athens

Wake up to a luscious breakfast at the hotel and enjoy your day at leisure in this fascinating city. Explore the city and discover its secret corners on your own rhythm.

Day 4 : Departure Athens
Location: Athina
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before preparing to check out of your room at the appropriate time. Enjoy a morning at your leisure in the capital and largest city in Greece. Visit the monuments and sites you best enjoyed from the day before or perhaps visit your favourite foodie destination for a second sample of a local delicacy. At the indicated time, the transportation service will transfer you to Athens International Airport for your onward or return flight. Although this is your last day with us in one of the world’s oldest cities, we are sure that the history, architecture and gastronomy of the cradle of Western civilisation will stay in your mind for a lifetime.

Where should I buy the flights to reach my destination?
Today Voyages does not sell flights directly. None of our tours come with flights included. Why? Because we prefer to give full flexibility to our valued customers to select the airlines and the booking platform they prefer. As soon as your flight is booked and confirmed, we invite you to update your flight plan within your Today Voyages booking confirmation page by entering your flight number, departure and arrival times, as well as your Passport information (if needed). None of these fields are mandatory but we highly encourage you to provide as much information as possible. This will allow us to provide you with the excellent service you are looking for.

What is an additional excursion or tour optional?
Certain tours might show a selection of additional excursions/optional activities that you may want to add to our standard itinerary. What is the difference between Group Vacations and Private Vacations?
If you purchase one of our Group vacation packages, you will be escorted by a professional tour guide and will be traveling with other like-minded travelers you may not know. The group size depends on the tour you select. If you purchase one of our Private vacation packages, you will be traveling only within your group of friends. You may or may not be escorted by a professional tour guide; this depends on the type of private tour you are interested in.

When and how will I receive the travel documents (vouchers)?
If you book one of our Group or Private tours, you will receive your travel documents via email approximately 20 days prior to travel date. If you reserve one of our Vacation Rentals, you will hear back from the property manager via email a few days prior to checking-in. We recommend checking your emails on a regular basis as this is our most reliable method of communication. If you have questions or need additional support, you can always chat with us or email us directly.

What happens if a Group tour does not get confirmed?
It is very simple... you will be offered an alternative departure date or be refunded the full amount you pre-paid. No questions asked!

What happens after I book?
The majority of our tours are confirmed at the time of booking. This means that, after submitting the payment online, you will receive an order confirmation email; make sure to save this email and to note down your confirmation number for any future communication with us. Some tours may be sold on a 'on request' basis. This means that for these tours we reserve the right to check the availability of your spot(s) with the Tour Operator before confirming the tour to you. As soon as you submit the payment online for a 'on request' tour you will receive an email notification that confirms your order request. Within 72 hours, you will receive either a confirmation email or a denial email. Do not worry... we will do everything we can to confirm your tour!

At 30 days before tour starts: Forfeit 50% of booking price.
