Arrive independently from 15.00. Evening welcome drink, and a talk by Dr Peter Higginson: ‘Van Gogh in England’ followed by dinner this evening at the hotel.
Day 2:Courtauld Gallery and National Gallery

Morning visit to the wonderful Courtauld Gallery to view the Van Gogh paintings, and those by his contemporaries, Manet, Gauguin, Degas, Cezanne, and Seurat. Free time for lunch (own expense) followed by our afternoon visit to the National Gallery with Peter where he will show us some of Van Gogh's works including Two Crabs, Farms near Auvers and his Sunflowers. Return to the hotel for an evening at leisure.
Day 3:Tate Modern Gallery, Van Gogh House, and the Gladwell Patterson Gallery

Morning visit to the Tate Modern to view Van Gogh paintings and his legacy to modern and contemporary art, including Fauvism, German Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Francis Bacon, David Bomberg and the Camden Town painters. Free time for lunch (own expense). Next we travel by coach to Van Gogh House, a Grade II listed building in South London where a young Vincent lived from 1873-1874, and was rumoured to have fallen in love with his landlady’s daughter Eugenie during his stay. Take a guided tour of the house to learn about its most famous tenant, and the history and architecture of the house itself, which supports contemporary artists by hosting events and exhibitions. On our coach back to the hotel, we stop at the Gladwell Patterson Gallery in Knightsbridge, which hosted Van Gogh on his travels after he and Harry Gladwell became friends while working for art dealer Goupils in Paris. We will enjoy a guided tour with one of the Gallery’s owners learning about its history and connection with Vincent Van Gogh. Return to the hotel for approx. 18.00.

Your LecturerDr Peter Higginson specialises in the art and culture of early modern Europe, and the modern period. He has taught numerous university courses abroad and has wide experience in leading cultural tours to different parts of Europe including Bilbao, Rome, Venice, Florence, Paris and further afield to Cuba. Caravaggio is probably his greatest artistic passion and formed the focus of his doctoral research. His enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment have earned him rave reviews from the many clients who have travelled with him on a Travel Editions’ tour over the years.
Please note that all our UK tours start and finish at the relevant hotel. You can normally check in from 3pm onwards but hotels will always be happy to store your luggage if you arrive earlier in the day.

Where does the tour manager meet us?
In most cases the tour manager will travel out with the tour group from the UK. However, this is not always the case and the tour manager may meet you at the destination station / airport.
