Tour Overview

We combine our Annapurna Trek with a wildlife safari at Chitwan National Park. This adventure is a fine contrast between trekking the remote foothills of the Annapurna's and a safari in the vicinity of Chitwan. We trek through traditional Hindu villages and pristine forests to ridge top camps that afford remarkable views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare. At Chitwan we undertake a wildlife safari in search of rhino and the Bengal tiger. (Our wildlife safaris take place inside the park boundaries.)

Highlights

  • Savour uninterrupted views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges

  • Search for Asiatic Rhino and Bengal Tiger in Chitwan National Park

  • Witness a magical sunrise over snow capped peaks at Poon Hill

  • Experience a breathtaking mountain flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara

  • Immerse yourself in Nepali culture as your trek through Gurung villages

Grading

To determine the grade of a particular adventure we consider a number of factors. These include the condition of the walking terrain, the altitude, the number of pass crossings and the length of the trek. The Annapurna Trek is graded introductory. This is primarily due to the low altitude gains and the condition of the trail which is well defined and not unduly demanding. During the trek you will be walking for up to five to six hours a day at a slow but steady pace. You will need a reasonable level of fitness (remember there is no such thing as an easy trek) and we suggest 30 minutes of aerobic type exercise, (either cycling or jogging) three times a week for the three months leading up to your trek. Hill walking with a daypack in variable weather conditions is also recommended.

Check out our Q&As

  • Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?

We have offices on three continents which means your travelling companions will be just that – international and wonderfully eclectic. Part of small group travel means that although travellers come from various locations and backgrounds, you will be travelling with like-minded companions who, like you, are keen to share the experience and forge lifelong friendships.

  • What about environmental impact?

We believe that adventure travel revolves around establishing a strong relationship with the people and environments in which we operate. Our responsible travel policies have been carefully developed to ensure that we minimise the impact of our presence and help to protect the regions we visit while contributing positively to the local community.

  • What should I pack?

Your pre-departure documents include a detailed packing list with items that you need to bring. While most of the equipment for daily activities is included in your tour cost, some items like helmets and hiking boots are best brought from home. The pre-departure documents also include information on layering and recommended brands for various items to ensure you are fully prepared for your trip.

  • Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

Yes. World Expeditions does not require single travellers to pay a surcharge for travelling alone on the vast majority of our trips. Our holidays are primarily on a twin share basis, so if you are joining the group as a solo traveller, we will match you with someone of your own gender. The choice is yours however; if you prefer not to share, we do offer single supplements for private occupancy.

  • Are tips included in my trip price?

Tips are not included in the tour cost. Tipping is a personal thing, do not worry about how much, or when, to tip. Tipping guidelines are provided for certain destinations in our pre departure information upon booking, however the best advice will be provided by your tour leader.

  • Am I suited to small-group travel?

We recognise that many of our travellers have not been on a ‘group trip’ before. Yet what our departures provide is both structure and flexibility, allowing you plenty of freedom within the framework of the itinerary. You’ll find that with our maximum group size at 16, you’ll travel in a minimal impact style with a great group of like-minded travellers.

  • Can you advise which vaccinations are recommended?

While our pre-departure kit provides information on vaccinations, we suggest that you consult your doctor, local government inoculation centre or a travel medical specialist in order to get the most current advice regarding vaccination requirements.

Just returned from a once in a lifetime trip Annapurna/Chitwan with World Expeditions and it was fantastic! The 6 day trek was not easy for me as a 55 year old but I made it ok (my hubby of the same age thought it was pretty easy). The views were incredible at every turn. Our guide Bijay was wonderful as were all the support staff. Food was delicious and plentiful, accommodation great. If you have been thinking about it - just do it!

For a first time trekker and camper, this trip was amazing. The camp sites were clean with real beds, hot water and electricity. The food was incredible, so much variety, delicious and enough to make sure you were never hungry. The guide and group leader were friendly, helpful and so easy to get along with. The trek was so challenging mentally and physically, but the beautiful scenery kept me going. I would definitely recommend! 5 stars all round.

I really enjoyed the trip. The mountain views were great and the Rhododendrons beautiful as well. Romi was also an excellent trip leader. Two small things: there was a lot of haze and I think this is common at this time of year. Not sure if that is properly disclosed. Also I tried to organise a Heli flight to mt Everest through world expeditions. It took a long time to get back to me and the price was prohibitive, (close to $5k US). I then organised one by myself over the internet and did so for a price of about US$2600 for 2. The flight was great. I think the wold exp price was for us to charter a helicopter just for us which we didn’t want - maybe that was not understood. However, the long time it took for World Ex- to get back to us meant that we didn’t have time to look into variations. Going on the internet I arranged everything in 1 day.

We had an excellent support team who looked after us very well, and made it such an easy trip for us. The bus driver was excellent in trying conditions. Our team leader was amazing, looking out for everyones needs, ours and the support crew, and teaching us about the mountains, the villages, the Nepali history and culture along the way. This made it more than just a trip with a group but an immersive and special experience. The team clearly had a great relationship with the villagers we met along the way making us feel welcomed into the area. I was really impressed by the organisation and support of the company.

You will be pleased to know that our trip was superb. All was perfect; companions, guide, weather, scenery and organisation. Last year we felt our trip was more strenuous than advertised but this year it was just right, suiting our youngest trekker of 22 to us oldies. Our female guide, BK, was excellent and she is wanting to take us on a similar level trek to Everest region next year. Thank you very much for organising and we look forward to another trek in 2018.

Trekking in Annapurna was an amazing experience - our guide Bharat made it full of laughs and memorable moments. Our cook, Ram, and his team never disappointed in the array of meals they were able to create along the way. Beautiful scenery and friendly people have certainly ensured that I will be returning to Nepal in the future.

This is an amazing trek that combines some moderate trekking with the safari. Each day is different and my favourite part of the day was watching the incredible sunsets and sunrises. They were simply stunning. The porters and kitchen staff are amazing and do a great job of looking after us.
