Although Bishkek sits roughly 700m above sea level, we will be heading up to roughly 2,000m today to visit one of the waterfalls that cascade through the park. Day 3 : Flight to Osh

Location: Osh, Sulayman-Mountain, Osh Bazaar, Suleiman Mount, Mosque of Babur

Accommodation Name: Sunrise Hotel or similar

We will rise early for our flight to Osh, the nearest city from which expeditions to Lenin Peak begin. Osh (called 'The Southern Capital") is the biggest city in southern Kyrgyzstan. It is a city with a host of side-streets, cozy open-air cafes and restaurants, bazaars and the main point of interest - "Sulayman-Mountain". This "mountain" rises in the middle of the town against a background of urban life, reminding us of the proximity of the Pamir-Alay Mountains.
Once we have arrived and settled into our accommodation, we will head out to view the town. We firstly visit the largest market in Central Asia - the Osh Bazaar. If you are missing anything for your adventure this is the perfect time to top up your backpack as you can buy practically anything here; just make sure not to get lost in the endless maze of shops and vendors. Afterwards we will visit the Suleiman Mount, one of the main shrines of the Islamic world in Central Asia, and the historical museum which is located right in the main cave. Follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims and head all the way up to the top of the hill where you can take in a bird's eye view of the city including the little Mosque of Babur, the founder of the Great Mogul Dynasty. Finishing our tour, we will take a short walk around and through the central square and city park. Tonight, your guide will take you through preparations for your upcoming trek.

Upon arrival in Kozho-Kelen (2300m) we will stay in the house of a local family and go on an acclimatization walk (2 - 3 hours). What You Carry

In your pack you will need to carry extra warm clothing (depending on the altitude, location and weather), a rain jacket, water bottle, camera gear, valuables and personal items such as sunscreen, lip balm etc.

Grading

On a moderate trek physical activity will generally not exceed eight hours in a day, and altitudes generally not exceeding 5,500 metres. On a moderate adventure the physical activity is sustained and travelers should be comfortable with occasional rough terrain. At any stage of a moderate trek you can expect long steep climbs and descents and a wide range of weather conditions. An example of an average day on moderate trek could include several ascents and descents of 500 metres or more, level ground is rare in the mountains. To prepare for a moderate trek you should begin training at least four to five months before your departure. As a guideline, an hour of aerobic exercise three to four times per week would be considered a minimum requirement. The best preparation is bushwalking involving relatively steep ascents and descents. If you can manage a couple of valley floor to ridgeline ascents per bushwalk, albeit with stops along the way, you will cope with a moderately graded trek. Speed is not important, stamina, confidence and continuity are. ...more ...less

30-Sep-2024

Due to an amazing experience with trekking in Bhutan organized by World Expeditions, I decided to join them this time for trekking in Tajikistan and visiting the Silk Road cities in Uzbekistan. Tajikistan is a true gem and an unexpected discovery. I was fascinated by the combination of trekking and the cultural experience of the cities of the Silk Road. The trek takes place in a beautiful part of the Pamir Mountains, full of mountain lakes and stunning views. Although it lasts only 5 days, it should not be underestimated. The guides, equipment, and organization were flawless. A special charm is added to this trip by homestays and overnight stays in yurts. Samarkand and Bukhara impressed me with their history and magnificent architecture. ...more ...less

Just completed a huge bucket list item - trekking to Mt Everest base camp! The World Expeditions guides and support people were absolutely FANTASTIC. Without Balram, Dakmon and Amber’s support, knowledge and continuous encouragement I’m not sure I would have made it (not mention our 4 porters who hauled our bags to every campsite). Huge shoutout to these wonderful people and the many behind the scenes who made it possible for me to complete a 50+ year dream. Thanks team!! ...more ...less

28-Jun-2022

After three failed attempts to visit Nepal and Everest Base Camp due to the pandemic, the UK team couldn't help enough with the forth rescheduling and assistance leading up and throughout the epic trip to Nepal. It was a truly wonderful experience from the moment we were picked up by the hotel staff and meeting Samde our guide, a lovely man who couldn’t do enough for us. These guys make the trip happen and without them would make it near on impossible. I did the trek for a charity close to me, Asthma UK and something I've suffered with for over 40 years. Raising a large amount of money to help with future research. Until the next world adventure, thank you once again to you and your colleagues in Nepal. I will be back at some point! ...more ...less

17-Dec-2024

I took the Shikoku pilgrimage at the beginning of November as a solo traveller. The pilgrimage itself is beautiful and the paths are very well maintained. The maps and guides provided are good quality and easy to follow. The guides also included some phrases which were useful for someone with a very elementary and rusty Japanese. The team at world expeditions took care of all the bookings and they selected very nice hotels, special mention to the hotel in Kamiyama that had absolutely beautiful views. The extra guides also have really good info on which buses to take, with prices and some time alternatives. Lastly, I had to reach out to support on the last day, I had some trouble and ended up missing the transport and they replied within minutes and helped me adjust my plans for the day with new train schedules. Overall really great experience thank you ...more ...less

I travelled with World Expeditions...

06-Nov-2024

I travelled with World Expeditions on their three week Madagascar Adventure and it was absolutely fantastic. The organisation of the logistics was flawless and the standard of the hotels was way above what I expected. The lemurs and chameleons were much easier to see than I thought they would be. We saw about 13 types of lemur, most of them really close up. Brilliant! The vehicles were very comfortable and the long travelling days were actually fun with some exciting 4wd and lots of very beautiful terraced farming. The crew for the canoeing and the trek were excellent and all the camping was very comfortable with a high standard of food. Don't hesitate to book this. It was truly memorable. ...more ...less

I have recently booked a hike to the top of Kilimanjaro through World Expeditions. The booking experience was very straightforward and the communication could not have been better. I booked quite last minute and everything on their side was very clear and timely - which made it for a stress-free experience. Thanks for your professionalism! The trip was not World Expeditions exclusive, which means it was done by a local company. I think it is great that World Expeditions works with local companies to fulfil their trip. I really enjoyed being able to connect with local communities and hear about the story of Tanzania. African Walking Company was great - the atmosphere was safe and friendly, yet serious about the risks. Guide, assistant guides and porters/helpers were all extremely helpful and enhanced the experience from start to finish! ...more ...less
