Tour Overview

Situated on the Tajikistan - Kyrgyzstan border, Peak Lenin stands at an altitude of 7134m and is the second highest mountain in the Pamir mountain range. Although a popular and non-technical ascent suitable for those who wish to climb for the first time over 7000 metres, this expedition is not to be underestimated due to the extreme altitude involved. Our expedition is from the Kyrgyzstan side of the peak, beginning from the village of Osh. We will acclimatise on the mountain, establishing and stocking our high camps for the first half of our expedition. Once all camps are in place, we will rest before making our summit push under expert guidance. To join this expedition you will need a high level of fitness, basic mountaineering skills, prior experience at high altitude and the desire required to reach the summit of a significant 7000m mountain.

Highlights

  • Climb Peak Lenin and reach 7000m with world class leadership

  • Experience a high level of support, including porters above base camp

  • Travel through the spectacular mountain scenery of Central Asia

  • Enjoy comfortable fully-inclusive base camp services set on an alpine meadow

  • Maximise your chances of summit success with ample acclimatisation built into the itinerary, mirroring our previously successful Peak Lenin expeditions

Itinerary

Day 1 : Join Bishkek

On arrival you will be met by a representative of World Expeditions and transferred to the group hotel. Your leader will leave a message at reception to advise of the briefing time which will depend on the arrival times of expedition members.

Day 2 : Flight To Osh And Transfer To Lenin Peak Base Camp (3600M)

We will rise early for our flight to Osh, the nearest city from which expeditions to Lenin Peak begin. Osh (called 'The Southern Capital") is the biggest city in southern Kyrgyzstan. It is a city with a host of side-streets, cozy open-air cafes and restaurants, bazaars and the main point of interest - "Sulayman-Mountain". This "mountain" rises in the middle of the town against a background of urban life, reminding us of the proximity of the Pamir-Alay Mountains, one of the least known mountain wildernesses in the world. From Osh to our base camp we drive along the Pamir Tract. We will cross the Taldyk Pass (3615m) before taking lunch in a yurt camp near Sary Tash village en-route. In the afternoon we will enter the Alay Valley to our base camp.Base Camp (3800m) is set on a picturesque alpine glade "Lukovaya Polyana". It is very comfortably appointed with large two person tents with wooden flooring and kurpachas, Kirghiz national mattress, hot showers and best of all, saunas. (300 km, 7-8hrs).

Day 3 : Short Acclimatisation Walk And Preparation Day

This day has been set aside for rest and acclimatisation. Your guide will brief you on the days ahead and assist you with your gear. Flexibility, a positive attitude and a desire to patiently overcome the various challenges are required on high altitude expeditions!

Day 4 - 6 : Osh City To Kozho-Kelen Village

Over the course of the next 3 days we will do further acclimatisation walks in the hills above basecamp and possibly attempt to climb the nearby Peak Petrovsky at 4800m.

Day 7 : Rest Day At Base Camp

The schedule during an expedition is flexible, with time required for rest, acclimatisation, weather and other factors.Today is a planned rest day at our well equipped base camp, where you may wish to avail of the sauna (at own expense) or another hot shower before the next stage of the expedition.

Day 8 : Move To Camp 1/Abc (Advance Base Camp)

Today will be a long day as we depart for camp 1/ABC (Advance base camp).Approx 9-10 hrs.

Day 9 - 11 : Acclimatisation And Climbing To Camp 2

During this acclimatisation period we will explore the area around camp 1/ABC and ascend to camp 2 at 5400m for the first time. Leaving camp 1 we head towards the North Wall and the beginning of the snow slope. After crossing the Lenin Glacier the angle of the slope is 35 to 40 degrees and we will use fixed ropes to assist us. Continuing up for approx. 80 metres we then traverse the slope onto a snow plateau known as “Skovoroda”. There is a final slope before reaching camp, we will then return to camp 1/ABC for a rest day.

Day 12 : Rest Day In Camp 1/Abc

Today is set aside to rest and recharge at our well equipped camp 1/ABC.

Day 13 - 15 : Climb To Camp 3 (6100M)

We leave the comfort of our advance base camp to make our way to camp 3 from where we will make our summit bid.The climb between camp 2 and camp 3 can be exposed and windy. We ascend the 30 degrees slope towards Razdelnaya Peak always keeping to the left of the rock to gain the broad ridge. Camp 3 is located at 6100m on the plateau about 200m from the summit of Razdelnaya. We will then retrace our steps to camp 1/ABC.

Day 16 : Rest Day In Camp 1/Abc

A final rest day at camp 1/ABC before our summit bid.

Day 17 - 21 : Summit Attempt

The route to the summit is not considered a technical climb, and although it is relatively straightforward, it is very challenging due to the high altitude and often adverse weather conditions. The trek to the top is a long one on a relatively easy angled ridge. Summit day will be around a 12-14 hour day. Our itinerary during this time is flexible. We ask that all participants follow the advice of the expedition leader and crew at all times and participate actively in load carrying, setting up of camps and preparing of meals when required. We have two contingency days to be used where required in the itinerary to maximise our chances of summit success.

Day 22 : Return To Base Camp

Our final journey on the mountain, back to base camp for a well earned shower.

Day 23 : Transfer From Bc To Yurt Camp And Osh

After a demanding yet exhilarating climb farewell the mountain and transfer back to Osh. Time now to hopefully celebrate summit success!

Day 24 : Flight From Osh To Bishkek

We make a relatively early start this morning for the flight back to Bishkek. The day is at leisure.

Accommodation

21 nights camping
This trip uses a mix of 2 and 3 star hotels. All rooms will be double occupancy. Due to the remoteness of this expedition, lodging options are limited and can be considered rustic. However all of the accommodation is both clean and comfortable. A limited number of single rooms will be available in the hotels only, not at base camp or on the mountain. A single supplement charge will be required for single room requests. If you are travelling solo we will match you with another traveller of the same sex at no additional charge. Please ask your consultant about availability.

What You Carry

In your pack you will need to carry extra warm clothing (depending on the altitude, location and weather), a rain jacket, water bottle, camera gear, valuables and personal items such as sunscreen, lip-eze etc. Whilst on the mountain you will be required to load carry to establish camps, or carry extra gear in case of inclement weather. Your pack needs to be a minimum of 65 litre capacity.

Grading

These are our most challenging expeditions. Clients must have prior mountaineering experience. Most are participatory expeditions & involve load carrying, setting up of camps, cooking and campcraft. Altitude is generally greater than 6500m. Some of these expeditions also involve “technical” climbing and are for experienced alpine climbers / mountaineers only.Technical expeditions involve steep climbing at high altitude, including mixed alpine climbing. Participation on one of these expeditions is subject to acceptance by one of our high altitude mountaineering guides.

Check out our Q&As

  • Who will be my travelling companions on the tour?

We have offices on three continents which means your travelling companions will be just that – international and wonderfully eclectic. Part of small group travel means that although travellers come from various locations and backgrounds, you will be travelling with like-minded companions who, like you, are keen to share the experience and forge lifelong friendships.

  • What about environmental impact?

We believe that adventure travel revolves around establishing a strong relationship with the people and environments in which we operate. Our responsible travel policies have been carefully developed to ensure that we minimise the impact of our presence and help to protect the regions we visit while contributing positively to the local community.

  • What should I pack?

Your pre-departure documents include a detailed packing list with items that you need to bring. While most of the equipment for daily activities is included in your tour cost, some items like helmets and hiking boots are best brought from home. The pre-departure documents also include information on layering and recommended brands for various items to ensure you are fully prepared for your trip.

  • Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

Yes. World Expeditions does not require single travellers to pay a surcharge for travelling alone on the vast majority of our trips. Our holidays are primarily on a twin share basis, so if you are joining the group as a solo traveller, we will match you with someone of your own gender. The choice is yours however; if you prefer not to share, we do offer single supplements for private occupancy.

  • Are tips included in my trip price?

Tips are not included in the tour cost. Tipping is a personal thing, do not worry about how much, or when, to tip. Tipping guidelines are provided for certain destinations in our pre departure information upon booking, however the best advice will be provided by your tour leader.

  • Am I suited to small-group travel?

We recognise that many of our travellers have not been on a ‘group trip’ before. Yet what our departures provide is both structure and flexibility, allowing you plenty of freedom within the framework of the itinerary. You’ll find that with our maximum group size at 16, you’ll travel in a minimal impact style with a great group of like-minded travellers.

  • Can you advise which vaccinations are recommended?

While our pre-departure kit provides information on vaccinations, we suggest that you consult your doctor, local government inoculation centre or a travel medical specialist in order to get the most current advice regarding vaccination requirements.

Well worth the effort to get there. An endurance climb to 7000m plus. Expertly led by expedition leader Soren Ledet. Highly recommended.

Even though I left the expedition unexpectedly early I had a wonderful time. Soren is a great expedition leader whom I admire for his climbing skill, ability and knowledge. Also very capable of managing a team that is virtually unknown to each other. If you want a great experience, go with World Ex and Soren.
