Tour Overview

Whether this is your first trek in Ladakh or a follow-up adventure, the Nubra Valley to Indus Valley trek offers a perfect balance of cultural immersion and high-altitude adventure. This itinerary reflects our decades of experience operating in India and takes you through some of Ladakh’s most breathtaking landscapes and historic sites.
Your journey begins in Leh at 3,500m (11,483ft), where we explore the ancient monasteries of Shey, Tikse, and Matho, gaining insight into Ladakh’s deep-rooted Buddhist traditions. From here, we drive over the Khardung La at 5,602m (18,379ft), the highest motorable road in the world, into the stunning Nubra Valley, where we visit Diskit Monastery before beginning our trek.
Over six days, we follow ancient trails through summer settlements and remote side valleys, encountering traditional ways of life while gradually ascending to the base of the Lasermo La. The highlight of the trek is the exhilarating crossing of Lasermo La Pass at 5,440m (17,847ft), offering spectacular views of the East Karakoram and the Stok Range. Descending into the Indus Valley, we reach Phyang, where we experience the vibrant two-day masked festival at Phyang Monastery, a true celebration of Ladakh’s living Buddhist culture.
Beyond the trek, we explore Ladakh’s most historic and remote monasteries, including Alchi, Lamayuru, and Likir, where ancient murals and monastic traditions provide a deeper understanding of this fascinating region. Returning to Leh, there is time to soak in the atmosphere of this unique mountain city, where Tibetan and Indian influences blend seamlessly.
With carefully planned acclimatisation, expert guides, and seamless logistics, this trek offers a rewarding mix of adventure and cultural discovery. The gradual approach to higher altitudes ensures a safer and more enjoyable experience. As part of our commitment to responsible travel, we support local communities, employ experienced Ladakhi staff, and ensure fair wages for porters and crew.
For those looking for a well-rounded Himalayan experience, the Nubra to Indus Valley trek combines the thrill of a spectacular pass crossing with the rich cultural heritage of Ladakh.

30-Sep-2024

Due to an amazing experience with trekking in Bhutan organized by World Expeditions, I decided to join them this time for trekking in Tajikistan and visiting the Silk Road cities in Uzbekistan. Tajikistan is a true gem and an unexpected discovery. I was fascinated by the combination of trekking and the cultural experience of the cities of the Silk Road. The trek takes place in a beautiful part of the Pamir Mountains, full of mountain lakes and stunning views. Although it lasts only 5 days, it should not be underestimated. The guides, equipment, and organization were flawless. A special charm is added to this trip by homestays and overnight stays in yurts. Samarkand and Bukhara impressed me with their history and magnificent architecture. ...more ...less

18-Mar-2025

Recently returned from a Patagonia Adventure arranged by WE and it exceeded our expectations as a destination! The itinerary worked so well and combined three National Parks, two countries (Argentina and Chile) and blended all travel arrangements and logistics by bus, minivan, car and boat with very comfortable accommodation. The trip provided extraordinary sightseeing to glaciers and vast ice fields along with with iconic day walks in the Fitzroy range and Torres National Park. The zodiac boat trip up the Rio Serrano through rapids and strong currents to Torres National Park was incredible and life affirming! Friendly local guides provided insights into flora, fauna, geology and all aspects of everyday life .. which meant we could just enjoy not looking at maps but enjoying the staggering scenery. It was a trip of a lifetime! Go! ...more ...less

Just completed a huge bucket list item - trekking to Mt Everest base camp! The World Expeditions guides and support people were absolutely FANTASTIC. Without Balram, Dakmon and Amber’s support, knowledge and continuous encouragement I’m not sure I would have made it (not mention our 4 porters who hauled our bags to every campsite). Huge shoutout to these wonderful people and the many behind the scenes who made it possible for me to complete a 50+ year dream. Thanks team!! ...more ...less

28-Jun-2022

After three failed attempts to visit Nepal and Everest Base Camp due to the pandemic, the UK team couldn't help enough with the forth rescheduling and assistance leading up and throughout the epic trip to Nepal. It was a truly wonderful experience from the moment we were picked up by the hotel staff and meeting Samde our guide, a lovely man who couldn’t do enough for us. These guys make the trip happen and without them would make it near on impossible. I did the trek for a charity close to me, Asthma UK and something I've suffered with for over 40 years. Raising a large amount of money to help with future research. Until the next world adventure, thank you once again to you and your colleagues in Nepal. I will be back at some point! ...more ...less

17-Dec-2024

I took the Shikoku pilgrimage at the beginning of November as a solo traveller. The pilgrimage itself is beautiful and the paths are very well maintained. The maps and guides provided are good quality and easy to follow. The guides also included some phrases which were useful for someone with a very elementary and rusty Japanese. The team at world expeditions took care of all the bookings and they selected very nice hotels, special mention to the hotel in Kamiyama that had absolutely beautiful views. The extra guides also have really good info on which buses to take, with prices and some time alternatives. Lastly, I had to reach out to support on the last day, I had some trouble and ended up missing the transport and they replied within minutes and helped me adjust my plans for the day with new train schedules. Overall really great experience thank you ...more ...less

06-Nov-2024

I travelled with World Expeditions on their three week Madagascar Adventure and it was absolutely fantastic. The organisation of the logistics was flawless and the standard of the hotels was way above what I expected. The lemurs and chameleons were much easier to see than I thought they would be. We saw about 13 types of lemur, most of them really close up. Brilliant! The vehicles were very comfortable and the long travelling days were actually fun with some exciting 4wd and lots of very beautiful terraced farming. The crew for the canoeing and the trek were excellent and all the camping was very comfortable with a high standard of food. Don't hesitate to book this. It was truly memorable. ...more ...less

I have recently booked a hike to the top of Kilimanjaro through World Expeditions. The booking experience was very straightforward and the communication could not have been better. I booked quite last minute and everything on their side was very clear and timely - which made it for a stress-free experience. Thanks for your professionalism! The trip was not World Expeditions exclusive, which means it was done by a local company. I think it is great that World Expeditions works with local companies to fulfil their trip. I really enjoyed being able to connect with local communities and hear about the story of Tanzania. African Walking Company was great - the atmosphere was safe and friendly, yet serious about the risks. Guide, assistant guides and porters/helpers were all extremely helpful and enhanced the experience from start to finish! ...more ...less
